Campbell Johnstone becomes first openly gay male Canterbury alumnus

Valued Canterbury Rugby alumnus Campbell Johnstone’s courage to publicly reveal that he is gay tonight is supported by the entire Canterbury Rugby Union.

To be the first to do anything takes strength and determination and to be the first professional rugby player in New Zealand to take this step is rightfully acknowledged for the bravery involved.

We hope Campbell enjoys widespread acceptance from the rugby community and wider public.

Rugby is a game for everyone, as demonstrated by Campbell tonight.
