Women’s and Girls’ Rugby in Canterbury
Canterbury Rugby has a variety of girls’ only and mixed grades with both contact and non-contact versions of the game available ensuring that no matter your age, skill or experience, rugby is enjoyable.
Girls’ Rugby
What’s on offer in 2025
Year 4-6 Monday Night
· 10-a-side competition
· A combination of entering teams and players able to play. Tackle and non-contact options available (subject to entries).
· Location: Nunweek park with once a month in either of our sub unions Ellesmere and North Canterbury
· Start Date: 5th May 2025
· End Date: 4th August 2025
· No Play: Kings Birthday weekend (2 July 2025) and School Holidays (30 June and 7 July 2025)
· Girls only tournament (opt-in) with Year 4-6 and Year 7 & 8 with new to rugby year 9s August 24th 2025 (TBC)
Year 7-9 Monday Night
· 10-a-side with option to move to 15 if both teams have numbers.
· A game for year 9 girls that are new to rugby. Competent year 9s are encouraged to play on Wednesday
· A combination of entering teams and players able to play. Tackle and non-contact options available (subject to entries).
· Location: Nunweek park with once a month in either of our sub unions Ellesmere and North Canterbury
· Start Date: 5th May 2025
· End Date: 4th August 2025
· No Play: Kings Birthday weekend (2 July 2025) and School Holidays (30 June and 7 July 2025)

What’s on offer in 2025
In 2025, we have a range of grades and programmes for all female players Year 13 and below:
YEAR 10-13 SATURDAY COMPETITION (with competent year 9s)
· Start Date: 10th May 2025
· End Date: 23rd August 2025
· No Play: Kings Birthday weekend (31 May 2025) and middle and end weekends of school holidays (5 July 2025 and 12 July 2025)
YEAR 9-10 WEDNESDAY COMPETITION (TERM 2)
· 10 or 15-a-side grade with Game On
· Start Date: 14th May 2025
· End Date: 18th June 2025
YEAR 11-13 WEDNESDAY COMPETITION (TERM 2)
· Skills and drills while juniors play finishing with mixed games.
· Those with enough for stand-alone senior girls team are welcomed to have their own team to play games.
MILES TOYOTA CUP (1ST XV COMPETITION - TERM 2&3)
· Start Date: June 18th 2025
· End Date: August 6th 2025
· No Play: school holidays (2 and 9 July 2025)

In 2025, we have three Senior Womens’ competitions for all female players 16 years and older.
