Signing off for 2024

As we head into the festive season, and close out the year, we take a moment to appreciate the progress and growth we’ve seen on and off the field in 2024.

With an increase across the board in participation numbers, and breakthrough performances in both grassroots and high performance, theres plenty of moments to celebrate.Clubrooms were buzzing, stands were full of passionate fans, and the energy behind the green fence has been strongly focussed on delivering our strategy 2028.
Looking forward we truly believe there’s a position on the team for everyone, it’s about our people, our game and our legacy, Manaakitanga: we care.

We can’t wait to hit the ground running in 2025, and hope to connect with you all one way or another in the coming months over the game we all love.
On behalf of the entire Canterbury Rugby family, we wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

This is not just Rugby
This is Canterbury Rugby

Celebrating our Community

These awards are about more than 80 minutes of rugby, they represent all the hard work, passion, dedication and countless hours that go in behind the scenes. It’s a way of recognising not only skill, but the qualities, vision and initiatives, that make an athlete, a team, a club, truly stand out.

To win one of the following Canterbury Rugby awards is to have one's efforts acknowledged not only by their peers but by the broader community.
Ultimately, it’s an opportunity to highlight those who excel not only in competition, but in the values they uphold on and off the field.

Off the back of a hugely successful season the stakes were high, with five prestigious Community awards up for grabs.

Volunteer of the Year

Volunteering takes many forms. It enables our game to be played, delivered, and positively impacts our communities in ways that are immeasurable. The Volunteer of the year nominees give their time to rugby, making it a better place for those they are serving and supporting.

Coach of the year

Coaches are role models and leaders who support their club or school to be successful in the long term. On field results may come to the Coach of the Year, however this is not their key focus. They create a positive team environment with their players enjoyment of the game at the heart if it.

Community Team of the Year

Our team of the year nominees are tight knit groups who have achieved more than the sum of their parts. They have qualities as a group that embody everything that is great about rugby and they will have contributed to their club, community and whanau beyond game-time.

Rugby School of the Year

The School of the Year nominees are future focused; innovating and challenging the norm while also creating an environment that includes players of all skill levels and diversities. They cultivate a lifelong love of rugby.

Club of the Year

The Club of the year nominees nurture a lifelong love of rugby in their community. They are respected within the rugby community for their leadership, vision and initiatives that see them working on and off the field for the betterment of the rugby.

The winners of these awards will be announced on our Facebook every night next week,
make sure you tune in to celebrate our Community success!

Representing Canterbury is no mean feat, these awards celebrate wearing the Red and Black and recognise a high level of achievement.

Across five categories, we acknowledge individuals who are at the top of their game on and off the field.
