Stability and opportunity intertwine as Canterbury Rugby announce NPC coaching group for 2024 and beyond

Canterbury Rugby is pleased to confirm the extension of NPC head coach Marty Bourke

through to 2025 along with Assistant Coaches Alex Robertson, Craig Dunlea and

Matt Todd.

Canterbury Rugby would also like to congratulate Bourke on his appointment as an Assistant Coach in Super Rugby with the Chiefs. “We’re delighted to have Marty, Alex, Craig and Matt locked in for 2024 and beyond. They’re a great group of men who have a passion for rugby in Canterbury and this offers rare consistency for our playing group and organisation,” said Canterbury Rugby Chief Executive Tony Smail.

“Just like our players, many of our coaches have aspirations to coach at the next level too, so for Marty to get that opportunity in Super Rugby is a great endorsement for him and one I’m sure will pay off for our organisation too.” Smail added.

“Marty has done a fantastic job connecting with our clubs and community over the past couple of seasons. We’re dedicated to continuing that connection and providing pathways and we’ve ensured as part of the renewals that our clubs continue to see our NPC and FPC coaches throughout the club season.”

“I am truly honoured and humbled by the continued support from Canterbury Rugby and its Board,” said Bourke. “Coaching this remarkable team is a privilege, and I am excited about the opportunity to contribute further to the growth and success of Canterbury Rugby.”

Bourke continued, “the recent extensions within the coaching group are a testament to the commitment of every individual associated with Canterbury Rugby. Together, we are focused on continued success and growth. 2024 promises to be an exciting chapter, I eagerly anticipate cutting my teeth in Super Rugby, and then returning to Canterbury for the NPC with fresh insights and knowledge.”
