Lincoln-Rolleston Combined ready for first season together

There’ll be a new chapter added to the rich history of two clubs this weekend, with Lincoln Rolleston joining forces for this season’s Luisetti Seeds Division 1 competition.

With both clubs having good numbers on paper, but limited attendance at pre-season trainings, the decision was made to combine forces for the year, giving both clubs the best opportunity to compete.

“With both clubs in the same boat, we saw it as an opportunity to provide a new competitive pathway for the club.” said Nicky Ruki, Rolleston RFC President.

“It also allows us to offer loyal players with a new opportunity, giving us a competitive Division 2 side and now this strong combined Division 1 team with Lincoln.”

It is a sentiment shared by Head Coach Bevan Sissons, who is relishing the challenge presented to him by combining the two clubs.

“The clubs have really thrown themselves behind the combined side, everyone has pitched in and joined together ahead of this season.” said Sissons.

“This weekend against Darfield presents an opportunity to gel and put on a bus trip for the first week, helping us all get ready for an exciting season ahead.”

A new jersey, games across both clubs and a collaborative mindset from all invovled means this season is looking good for both clubs, with a match against defending Coleman Shield champions Darfield first on the cards of an exciting season.

“Both clubs are very supportive of each other. We are all looking forward to this season.” said Ruki.
