HSOB Light Bears ready for Southern Final Challenge.

Following wins against Lincoln and University, the HSOB Light Bears will be representing Canterbury in the U85kg National Club Cup, travelling down to Waimate to meet the Southern Bush Pigs in Round 3.

Effectively the Southern final, the match is set to be a great exhibition of the U85kg code, with HSOB at almost full strength with the side creating a lot of excitement amongst the Hagley Park club.

The coaching group of 4-time champion Team 2 front rowers Mitch Daly and Jack Hyde, alongside Canterbury First-Five-Eight Alex Harford has ensured their side is ready for anything the Bush Pigs throw at them, with the Dunedin side the newest edition of last year’s National champions.

“Both Mitch and Jack are running a really tight ship up front with a number of boys who haven’t played in the forwards before, teaching everything through from the basics to the dark arts of scrummaging” said Harford.

“It’s left me with the backs which has been a lot of fun, it’s very player led as we’ve got some really talented guys in there but it’s been good to venture into some senior coaching.”

For the Light Bear’s crack coaching crew, there’s certainly no illusion to the challenge of facing last year’s champions.

“They’re a physical U85kg side so we excited for the challenge and hopefully we can get the win.” said Harford.

The match takes place on Sunday the 14th, with kickoff in Waimate set for 1:30pm.
