Canterbury’s FPC and NPC seasons set with 2022 draw confirmed.

The Canterbury Farah Palmer Cup (FPC) and National Provincial Championship (NPC) teams can begin preparations for the new season ahead, with the release of the 2022 season draw today.

The FPC season starts on the 16th of July, with an away trip to the Wellington Pride, while the NPC team will have the honor of kicking off the NPC season, with an opening night trip to Palmerston North to take on Manawatu on the 5th of August.

Canterbury’s first FPC home game will be on the 23rd of July at Rugby Park, taking on Auckland. The first double header of the season in round 5 sees a return to Orangetheory Stadium, setting up a tantalizing finals rematch against Waikato.

Round 6 is also set to be an exciting double header, with the home match against the newly promoted Manawatu Cyclones set to be played alongside the Black Ferns Laurie O’Reilly test match against Australia.

Following all seven rounds, the start of finals will be played at the beginning of September.

For NPC, Canterbury welcome Wellington to Orangetheory Stadium for round 2 on the 13th of August to start the home season with a 7:05pm kick off.

The following week sees the return of the Storm Week, with two home games in five days. On Wednesday the 31st, North Harbour will travel to Canterbury, and on Father’s Day, Sunday the 4th of September, Hawkes Bay will be the opponents for the 2:05pm game. A week later, Canterbury will welcome Northland south, for a Sunday afternoon fixture on the 11th of September.

Canterbury’s final home game will see the Supporters Club Trophy go on the line against traditional rivals Auckland, with the two teams meeting on Friday the 23rd of September.

The finals series for NPC will start on the 7th of October, with Canterbury looking to continue their stellar finals qualification record and make a long awaited return to the top of the National Provincial Championship.
