Romano's professional rugby career started with the Canterbury provincial team in 2009. He joined the Crusaders two years later, but 2012 was his breakthrough year, impressing for both the Crusaders and for the All Blacks in his debut season.
A builder by trade, Romano was a promising cricketer until he was overcome by injury and made the switch to rugby.
He has played 26 tests to date for the All Blacks, and was a part of the successful 2015 Rugby World Cup squad.
