Canterbury Rugby and Crusaders congratulate awards winners

The annual Canterbury Rugby Awards evening has seen some of the region’s top and emerging talent recognised.

Canterbury Rugby and Crusaders CEO Hamish Riach said it was a superb evening with much to celebrate in the region.

“It was fantastic that so many of those involved with Canterbury Rugby, whether they be the players, coaches, staff, sponsors or volunteers, were able to enjoy an evening of celebration and reflection on the 2013 year.

“There were obviously some ups and downs over the year, but overall we have finished the year in good heart.  The Crusaders made their fifteenth semi-final out of the last sixteen years; the Canterbury team took their sixth consecutive ITM Cup title; we had a number of players making their All Black debuts this year (in fact a third of the current All Blacks squad are Crusaders players), and the Canterbury Women’s team made the final of their National Provincial Competition for the second year in a row,” Mr Riach said.

“There are obviously a huge number of people who have contributed to this success in one way or another and we couldn’t possibly thank them all individually, but this awards evening was a way of us saying a collective thanks to all of those involved as well as acknowledging some outstanding individual achievements.”
