Canterbury Rugby says ‘thank you’ to fans

The Canterbury ITM Cup team is thanking its supporters for helping to get them to another Premiership Final. Canterbury beat Auckland 56 points to 26 on Saturday afternoon and will now face Wellington in the Final on Saturday night.
Canterbury Captain George Whitelock said the vocal crowd at AMI Stadium on Saturday definitely influenced the result.
“It was a fantastic crowd at the Semi-Final and the team really felt their support. I know it sounds like a cliché, but the support of a home crowd really does make the difference to a player. When you consider that we haven’t lost at home in the last two seasons, that is clear to see.
“Unfortunately we will be playing the Final away this weekend, but we will all be reminding ourselves before we go out on the field that Canterbury fans are behind us and the best way we could thank them is with a win,” Whitelock said.
If Canterbury win the Final this weekend, it will be the fifth time that Whitelock has raised the trophy as Canterbury Captain, and the sixth consecutive Premiership title for Canterbury. Canterbury created history last year by becoming the first team to take five provincial titles in a row, so no other team in national provincial history has been in a position to take six consecutive wins.
